A comparison of two reciprocating instruments using bending stress and cyclic fatigue tests.

The aim of this study was to comparatively evaluate the bending resistance at 45º, the static and dynamic cyclic fatigue life, and the fracture type of the WaveOne (Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland) 25-08 and Reciproc (VDW, Munich, Germany) 25-08 instruments. A total of 60 nickel-titanium (NiTi) instruments (30 Reciproc and 30 WaveOne) from three different lots, each of which was 25 ...

A Study of Accuracy in an Intelligent V-Bending Process for Sheet Metals-Change in Young's Modulus due to Plastic Deformation and Its Effect on Springback-

An intelligent V-bending process developed by the authors is briefly described and the importance of change in Young's modulus due to plastic deformation, which influences the amount of springback and therefore the accuracy, is emphasized. The change in Young's modulus in simple tension of a cold rolled steel sheet is experimentally investigated by affixing strain gauges on the specimen. It is ...

Bending Fatigue Failures in Valve Steel

In the present paper the effect of defects (viz. pits, gouges and oxide inclusions) will be reported. Although certain defects were uniformly distributed over the specimen surface, the majority of all fractures started in the edge region. An explanation to this behaviour is presented in terms of stress enhancement in the edge regions due to edge deflections.

Photo-induced bending in a light-activated polymer laminated composite.

Light activated polymers (LAPs) have attracted increasing attention since these materials change their shape and/or behavior in response to light exposure, which serves as an instant, remote and precisely controllable stimulus that enables non-contact control of the material shape and behavior through simple variation in light intensity, wavelength and spatially controlled exposure. These featu...

Bending and Free Vibration Analyses of Rectangular Laminated Composite Plates Resting on Elastic Foundation Using a Refined Shear Deformation Theory

In this paper, a closed form solution for bending and free vibration analyses of simply supported rectangular laminated composite plates is presented. The static and free vibration behavior of symmetric and antisymmetric laminates is investigated using a refined first-order shear deformation theory. The Winkler–Pasternak two-parameter model is employed to express the interaction between the lam...
